    • lard: fat from the abdomen of a pig that is rendered and clarified for use in cooking.
    • beef: meat from cows
    • innards: internal organs
    • squash: 
      - crush or squeeze (something) with force so that it becomes flat, soft, or out of shape.  
      - an edible gourd, the flesh of which may be cooked and eaten as a vegetable.
    • plagued: infected
    • recipient: a person receiving something
    • emerging: becoming apparent or prominent.
    • met with: to have a formal meeting with 
    • sidetracked: distracted
    • sect: a group of people with somewhat different religious beliefs (typically regarded as heretical) from those of a larger group to which they belong
